Salima district commissioner (DC) the Reverend Moses Chimphepo says the district is ready for a peaceful vote today as all logistical arrangements are set.

Speaking in an interview in Salima on the state of preparedness in terms of logistics and personnel staff, Chimphepo said: “All is well.”

He added: “We got ballot papers and boxes in time and they are being deployed to the centres. We had a few problems as there are insufficient ballot booths, but we have already communicated with the electoral body and things should be sorted out. I am visiting the polling stations for a final touch.”

Voters’ records show that Salima has about 28 aspiring members of Parliament (MPs) in five constituencies and 184 000 registered voters with 115 polling stations.

Spot checks by The Nation in some polling stations showed that polling clerks were undergoing training whereas some ballot boxes were being distributed with the supervision of Malai Defence Force (MDF) officers.

Presiding officer for Kalonga Polling Centre, Davie Jana, said: “So far so good. We are hopeful for a peaceful, fair and credible tripartite elections.”
